Dr. Neil Floch is a Board Certified General Surgeon who has specialized in Advanced Laparoscopic, Foregut and Bariatric Surgery. He is the Director of Minimally Invasive & Bariatric Surgery at Norwalk Hospital in Norwalk, Connecticut. Dr. Floch is a member of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons, the American Medical Association and the Society of American Gastroendoscopic Surgeons.
Dr. Floch graduated from Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts, Magna Cum Laude. He continued his education at the Boston University School of Medicine. He completed his Residency in General Surgery at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City. From there Dr. Floch completed his Fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. While at the Mayo Clinic, he studied under Dr. Ronald Hinder and specialized in Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery. He then became an instructor at the Mayo Clinic in Surgery in 1998.
During his training, Dr. Floch developed an expertise in anti-reflux and laparoscopic surgery. He has been performing all types of general surgical procedures since 1997. He has performed hundreds of laparoscopic procedures, which are less invasive, allow for quicker recovery and less scarring postoperatively. The procedures he performs include laparoscopic fundoplications for the treatment of severe gastroesophageal reflux disease, laparoscopic cholecystectomies, appendectomies, hiatal hernia repairs, as well as laparoscopic bariatric procedures, including lap band, gastric sleeve, and Roux-n-y gastric bypass. Dr. Floch also performs colon resections, abdominal surgeries and is able to address the general surgical needs of his patients.
Dr. Neil Floch has maintained a General Surgery and Bariatric private practice in the Norwalk Community since 1998. He has satellite offices located in Stamford, Shelton and North Haven to allow access for patients in other areas of the state to his expertise. Dr. Floch has privileges to perform surgery at Norwalk Hospital in Norwalk, Connecticut, St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport, Connecticut and Griffin Hospital in Derby, Connecticut. Dr. Floch has served as the President of the Connecticut Chapter of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.
Dr. Floch has participated on various Committees at the Norwalk Hospital and has been an advocate for developing educational programs for patients regarding weight loss, reflux, and endoscopic surgeries. He has authored twenty-four (24) published journal articles. Dr. Floch contributed to and has written seven chapters, including the first one hundred (100) pages of Netters Gastroenterology, specializing in surgery on the esophagus and bariatric surgery. He has provided countless presentations on topics including reflux surgery, bariatric surgery, hernia repair, and endoscopic procedures. Dr. Floch was a member of the Norwalk Hospital Strategic Planning Committee from 2005-2007. He also served as Chairman of the Bariatric Center of Excellence Task Force Committee for Norwalk Hospital and on the Medical Executive Committee from 2008-2010.
Throughout his career, Dr. Floch has been the recipient of various awards and honors. In 2002, Dr. Floch was the recipient of the Scallen Award for Innovations in Antireflux Surgery at Norwalk Hospital. He was one of four nominees in 2004 and 2005 for the Melville G. Magida Award, an award given to an outstanding young physician by The Richard & Hinda Rosenthal Foundation and the Fairfield County Medical Association. In 2009 he was recognized as Best Physician as chosen by his peers in the published Consumers’ Guide to Top Doctors. Dr. Floch as been recognized as a Castle Connelly Top Doctor as well as a Top Doctor in Bariatric Surgery by Connecticut Magazine.
